Last night our friends the Porters asked us when we were going to put up our holiday lights. I replied that I would *turn them on* after Thanksgiving. That is, we have one string of lights across the front of the Landfill and they stay up year-round but I only turn them on in the winter. (‘course there are also the strings of lights *inside* the house — purple and blue — that stay on all year.)
Good point, Mary Jo. It was more of a hoot than a coo, and from higher than the doves usually sit. I will listen carefully next time to make sure. Neighbors have heard her/him, too….

You sure it was an owl? Mourning doves are often mistaken as owls,
