We couldn’t smell the wildfire smoke, so we went over to the Old Fourth Ward park and walked around the lake, up and down, but took it easy. (Knee MUCH better, but still a tad ailing.)
And, we even spotted a turtle! Minnows (not pictured)! Slightly larger feeeesh (not pictured)! So, despite the horrendous murkiness, this water supports turtle food, and hence, at least one turtle.

I recently to a tour of the O4W led by the park horticulturist and he said that they did not stock the pond with any fish or turtles. However some guy introduced goldfish to the pond so he could harvest the babies (under the cover of darkness) and sell them to pet stores. They don’t know how the turtles got there, and now the great blue herons have discovered the goldfish & they hang out there as well.

Ah, destroy the public ecology for private gain (introduced species). Not all the fish look like goldfish. Tour sounds like it was a lot of fun.
