This is definitely the story of the day. I heard sandhills above, and I looked and there they were! Last week, I heard, but never spotted them. It was a bit of a let-down to not see them. Today was much better.

We went to Port Aransas, TX for their annual Whooping Crane Festival. We saw whooping cranes and sandhill cranes. The sandhills were grayer than the ones we see in the summer in Michigan. Maybe the brown is breeding plumage? It was a target-rich environment for birds and birders.
