Love the “flat” branches and general tree shape of these landscaping varieties/cultivars of Acer palmatum.

While still on the trees and colorful, autumn leaves are also more impactful. With the iPhone available, and no zoom-lensed camera in hand, I bring you a few yellow and orange-red specimens in the past-their-peak, drying-on-the-ground stage.

The ABG is once again proving that it’s about…the bottom line, not plants. Plants are just the theme for…ah, well, it’s a lovely place to roam in the sunshine, and I’m so very glad we have it within walking distance. A good walk, so…today, we punted and drove over—to give ourselves more time to wander the grounds as winter (northern hemisphere variety) and the time change shorten the afternoon….

I was going to use a fuchsia-colored azalea bloom photo (yes, in bloom now, silly plant), but it would have been a repeat and sloppy on my part. Even though the color would have been brighter. Instead, here’s a shrub, prepared for winter slow-down followed by spring burgeoning. Forget the name. Still, a lesson here….
In the midst of the afternoon grey, I decided to make my old favorite, green tea, which has been off the menu for months (lazy? summer heat? whatevah).
Now, I’m about ready for a stronger remedy, maybe Seccola frizz ante (back at TJs! after a hiatus)…or a Côtes du Rhône red…. SOMEthing.

Yesterday, we did get the pansies in the ground. Today, I noticed the squirrels had removed all the blossoms. Oh, well, they did get enough water with the rain!
…which pretty much had stopped by about eleven, when we headed out to vote. Our trip turned into a group event, as our neighbors were headed out at the very same time! Yes, walking. Love that the polling place is walkable.
When we arrived, the line was short—not even out the door, but building by the time we left. I think the rain delayed some people. I also think many, many people early-voted.
And now we wait.

My activities today seemed more fragmented and parallel than of-a-piece, yet somehow one task flowed from another. We did manage to start on the fall yard work, readying for the rain that’s expected overnight—a weather system that then will work its way north to torture the poor people already battered in NJ/NY.

Sun time. Gnomon reality.
Political expediency brings us today’s autumnal time change (with its spring twin).
Gnomon is from the Greek for indicator.

Wandered the sunny streets for a bit, ducked into a Korean taco (!!) place for a mid-afternoon snack, then wandered homeward.
We found the fillings better than the ho-hum tortillas—still, we enjoyed them.

The ever-so-lovely gardenia…scent…exceeds the gorgeousness of the flower….
…took the mental health “out” and dodged my…inbox…pretty much all day…. Luv you everyone…. And, yes, this photo is from today. No comment on global warming and climate events.

I grew up without bald cypress (Taxodium distichum), so I continue to learn about this ancient (as in, evolved to its “stopping” point [discuss this verbal/conceptual sloppiness amongst yourselves], early on) species. This was its week to drop needle clusters (excuse plz, “deciduous branchlets”) making, this day, a subtle, gorgeous carpet of still-fresh organic matter.
Current major personal and situational influence: Domaine du Vieux Chêne, Vaucluse, 2011, vin rouge.
