There’s a direct relationship between the importance of commuter jets and how they are treated at the airports they connect. At Lansing, jetways (yes, and this is our actual flight). In Atlanta, already a pre-holiday ZOO, we WALKED a considerable distance, wending our way through a parking lot of planes, from ours to the STEPS up to the concourse (escalator coming down for those headed OUT, though).

I scared up the turkeys today (yes, there’s one in the center of the frame), and as I looped about, kept scaring them up. This is the only photo I took, but provides only minimal proof of the flock. I actually quit my walk early ’cause I was concerned about bothering them.

A pre-dawn flight brought me back (temporarily) to the Midwest. First Pond has shrugged off its mantle of ice, and the warm winter sun set it aglow this afternoon.

Some age-old questions remain unanswered. Sometimes you unexpectedly discover the answer to such questions.
And apparently Santa makes his pit stops pretty much like the rest of us.

Those of you residing elsewhere, especially in the upper Midwest, here’s a hallmark of winter in the sunny South: outdoor drinking fountains that are still on-line in mid-December.
Temp unseasonably up around 70°F today….

So, we’re out for our Saturday morning visit to the weekly organic farmer’s market, and we’ve scored all kinds of goodies (Brussels sprouts, lettuce, chard, bread, blueberry syrup), and we’re heading home when we pass this yard, with a party-hearty Santa, who, it appears, jumped out of his outfit last night to attend revels and hasn’t returned.

About three houses later, whoops, there’s another deflated Santa. In fact, these ladies are so concerned they’re trying to check in with the homeowners. Me, I assume it’s another party Santa….
About four houses later, we finally found an inflated Santa, but it was such a lousy version that the arms hung flat by design, and I couldn’t face committing pixels to it.

Our neighborhood has its own flavor of public humor and decoration; I love the juxtaposition of the metallic palm and a fake featherlike boa wreath with the typical conservative early 20th-century Va-Hi bungalow architecture.

Today we transitioned from the Midwest home! Miles and miles of I-75 and I spotted this sign, long enough before dusk to know we’d get home before dark, and could breathe a huge sigh of relief.

We are very lucky to have some 5-star neighbors who realized that when the city crews descended on our street with this machine that munches up the blacktop and all its noisy brethren that we were SOL ’cause we were out of town unless they moved our SUV off the street for us. So, despite a dead battery and brakes that wouldn’t hold it in our sloping driveway without the assist of firewood and concrete bags, they made it happen. Big kudos to our neighbors!

Rainy day today, although I began my walk when it wasn’t raining. Nevertheless, the balmy temps have some of the adventurous plants greening up.
