Musings

Loud sign

I’m still on the fence about whether this is a fake sign, meant to terrify (or at least drive off) Bad Guys. After all, don’t you expect an alarm system to be, well, loud?

However, this sign still makes me smile!

Spider time

Since we’ve gotten back to Big A-town, we’ve had to eradicate spiders who took up residence in the house while we were gone (our own local, household version of move-on-dot-org). This colorful fellow/lady, thankfully, was outdoors.

Obscuring? light

Light inspires me.

Light plus texture—truly exciting.

Thinking about fabric today (not like Ababsurdo or Mouse). Instead, we’re considering getting new curtains for the living and dining rooms. The consumer role is not one of my favorites. Additionally, I think this new curtain thing may require me to somehow convert some panels with fabric that I like into pinch-pleated drapery that I—we—will enjoy living with, which will require me to dip into a skill set that I have but rarely choose to activate.

What irony—curtains block that same inspirational light….

Braves win!

At least once a season, we try to attend a Braves game. I always enjoy the bits that aren’t broadcast, like the maintenance crew smoothing the field, and the chintzy advertising gimmicks, like this modified Mini Cooper with a Delta logo and airplane tail above the bumper (lower left).

Buggy season

Amazingly, the weather’s turned cool, and I’m not hearing the buzz of the cicadas that I heard all summer even through closed windows (hmm, maybe we need to upgrade our windows).

Moving day

Early on, we undertook today’s big assignment: getting Bob (substantially) moved. Thankfully, the movers did the heavy and awkward stuff. I’m especially thankful since the humidity was so high—whew!

Here, the Guru carries Bob’s skis, which he vows to use this coming winter….

He has abandoned an ancient scanner, leaving it on the curb for review by scroungers—and the weeding crew.

Late bloomer

We’re starting to get a bit of rain, including from good ol’ Humberto. At least, we’ve had enough that not all the flowering plants have declined the opportunity to bloom.

Fenced fountain

I renewed my acquaintance with Athens (the Georgia one) today. I found my favorite fountain fenced and dry.

Perhaps a metaphor for…?

Story telling

Love having friends in from out of town! Now we can get caught up not only by telling stories, but by looking at pictures posted on the web.

Love that modern technology!

Gutter rivers

Late this afternoon, we got one of those tropical downpours that fills the gutters, then a half an hour later, after you had to make a mad dash through it and got sopping wet (your hair!, at least), it stops and before an hour is gone, the sun’s back out.
