Rhodo time

rhododendron_bloom_cluster_white_2010.jpg

Note the bumble bee-butt in the upper right of the bloom cluster.

Lots in bloom right now, including our rhodos, both the old one (white) and this year’s newly planted replacement—and the new one is indeed deep red-purple, just as labeled.

I’ve also noticed lots of vine honeysuckle (Lonicera spp.) in bloom, which has a nice smell, but is an annoying spreader, kinda the yellow cousin to the kudzu.

Enjoying the buzz over the FREE FREE! Neandertal-human genome mix report in Science (the glitzy—that is, popular—version is here, but watch out as it’s loaded with Flash). Best upon-release commentary I expect I’ll see is by John Hawks.
