Musings

Novelties

I do enjoy the “regular” redbuds very much, yet I also always look for the few white redbuds that are scattered in this neighborhood.

This is the first summer “insect” picture, in which I take a flower picture, then find when I look closely at the photo that I also made a bug-portrait.

Getting wise

Penultimate 2023–2024 winter sunset…sometimes it’s worth it to look backwards.

Burger art

Looks better than real, with those highlights and that reflection. [Are there eels in that water? At one time, in southern Britain, you paid your rent in eels…. Details here.]

Deception

Early this evening I looked out the window and was awash in the feeling that I could tell the days were longer. Then I thought about it. Nope; well, a little. Mostly, I was noticing the apparent longer days from the time change.

Ephemera

Petal drift

Springtime brings petal drifts. That they are short-lived is part of their attraction.

Details, details

Most of the bulbs are finished blooming. Today I found several flourishing patches of alyssum. Mmmm.

Ah, however, the deep knowledge of the internet says this is commonly called sweet alyssum, if I have it right, but the taxonomists now put it in a related genus these days (Lobularia), so it, taxonomically, has a foot (root?) in two camps.

Non-scientific summary

Redbud buds

I did another blooming check (early? late? same?), and with spotty data over the last few years, I’d say “about the same.”

π

Pi 2017

We didn’t have pie today, but we did in 2017. They were a mix of sweet and meat.

Comparison

It occurred to me the other day that I could look at previous years and see where the spring blooming was. This is 17 years ago, and we’re at about the same point, maybe a day or two behind.

Curlers

I attended an 80th b-day party this evening, the second of the day for the honoree. This was the best card…I wish I remembered the details (typical of me not to)…the punch line inside was something about no matter the age, we keep the sass.
