Musings

Cut flowers are usually shipped miles, often by air. Also, they are often irrigated, including if grown in a hot-house (or similar). Thus, cut flowers are not-green green…and essentially represent a transfer of water from one part of the world to another…where they are thrown out, or sometimes composted (probably with chemicals (herbicides?) on them).

Back in 1902, officials opened a penitentiary south of Atlanta, and now amidst neighborhoods and other development. The property was centered on a secure, walled facility for the inmates, and had several nearby buildings, including homes. Here’s one, long unoccupied. What a weird thing to be a kid growing up here.

We had rain off and on all day, and I looked out into the gloom at one point, and a sprig of a 5 foot tree in the understory sported bright yellow leaves, such survivors.
I found out today that coral and jade are the 35th wedding anniversary materials.

Glad to hear the huge teams of artisans, engineers, and many other specialists have been able to get this building open again. I enjoyed walking all the way around the cathedral; it’s huge and not just a façade. Double-duh.

Windows are pretty amazing. And relatively modern. Glad I don’t live, at least part of the day, in a window-less structure with dried mud walls. Anyway, glass…so good.

Can you tell these are ginkgo leaves? They are, and they’ve dropped…one of those mysteries in the plant world is that they fall at the same time. BTW, that renegade garnet leaf on the left is from a maple.

I decree: the lacy maple leaves are electrifying the sunshine.

On another street, I found a fallen sweet gum ball en route to becoming duff.

It turns out I sometimes (often?) make a trap for myself. You see, I select a photo and get it ready to post, then set it aside to wait for words, an idea…that part. Then, I can forget I need to actually do the post…and whoops, like tonight, I zipped back downstairs to find words and make it happen. Goodnight!

I like this hazy reality, achieved by shooting/looking through a dirty window, and also I was enjoying a lovely albeit chilly dawn a-breaking.
