Musings

O4W (park)

O4W stands for Old Fourth Ward. The northern part of that neighborhood, according to the present boundaries, is centered around Historic Fourth Ward Park, which is where there was a spring, and now there’s a pond that’s designed to impound stormwater. Here’s a bridge to nowhere, or a pier, over that water.

All the buildings on the right, and most of those at the far end, have been built since the park, and the BeltLine trail you can’t see (to the right behind the buildings), were established less than a generation ago. The star-shaped pattern is from the aerator fountain, which stopped just as I snapped this (just the way I timed it haha).

Live like an oyster shell?

Photo from this day in 2020. Never quite grasped the logic behind “the world is your oyster.” Oysters are slimy and evanescent. Their shells are durable and hang around for thousands of years. If the saying refers to pearls, as some allege, why doesn’t it use the word pearl? I’d rather find parallels, and hope, with oyster shells.

Jumping forward

I had some grand idea about suggesting a parallel between sunshine and…prosperity…but, instead, I’ll just say…well, the first fireworks went off within my hearing at 6:50 this evening.

Ready for soccer balls

On the 23rd, this was a near-empty tree lot with assorted fenced-in detritus abandoned…I thought. However, someone swooped in and the tree lot detritus no longer lingers. The only remaining clue of the sales lot that moved hundreds of trees is a line of blown-in leaves where the fence was (foreground).

Oopsie-upsie

Sometimes I pick a picture, then time passes…and I think I’ve posted for the day. Even if I didn’t. Oops. [Delayed post.]

Rainy Monday

We had a puddle Xmas. Drip drip drop.

Two-item inventory

Two days after Thanksgiving, this lot was full of trees, and even some wreaths, most under large and extra-large tents. Two days ago, there were seven trees left. Today, I saw two, and one outside the fence leaning against the porte-potty (why?). Now, the tents are gone and just detritus remains.

Also, we visited two grocery stores, and neither had fresh cranberries.

Pansy plus

Pansies of purple

Yeah, I know they’re a little wilt-y, but they’re still fine purple pansy specimens. Enjoy them, or watch “The Librarians” (so silly, also it came out so long ago).

Duty/shame

Been watching the BBC’s “Giri/Haji” and enjoying a different pacing. The name is transliterated Japanese, and means duty/shame. The reference, I assume, is to ethical decisions and family relationships. The show is mostly set in London, with a few bits in Tokyo. The series is a bit more violent than I’d like, yet well-plotted and well-acted.

IH-AV is backwards

I took a walk and discovered preparations underway for an influx of weekend visitors. Welcome to WinterFest!

Bring your wallet and make our shopkeepers happy…amenities provided (💩 possibilities).
