Musings

On the 23rd, this was a near-empty tree lot with assorted fenced-in detritus abandoned…I thought. However, someone swooped in and the tree lot detritus no longer lingers. The only remaining clue of the sales lot that moved hundreds of trees is a line of blown-in leaves where the fence was (foreground).

Sometimes I pick a picture, then time passes…and I think I’ve posted for the day. Even if I didn’t. Oops. [Delayed post.]

Two days after Thanksgiving, this lot was full of trees, and even some wreaths, most under large and extra-large tents. Two days ago, there were seven trees left. Today, I saw two, and one outside the fence leaning against the porte-potty (why?). Now, the tents are gone and just detritus remains.
Also, we visited two grocery stores, and neither had fresh cranberries.

Yeah, I know they’re a little wilt-y, but they’re still fine purple pansy specimens. Enjoy them, or watch “The Librarians” (so silly, also it came out so long ago).

Been watching the BBC’s “Giri/Haji” and enjoying a different pacing. The name is transliterated Japanese, and means duty/shame. The reference, I assume, is to ethical decisions and family relationships. The show is mostly set in London, with a few bits in Tokyo. The series is a bit more violent than I’d like, yet well-plotted and well-acted.

I took a walk and discovered preparations underway for an influx of weekend visitors. Welcome to WinterFest!

New coffee shop in the neighborhood…. I don’t get how there’s the least bit favorable association between ash and either coffee or pastries.

The other week, I read a novel set in 19th century London, by an author living at that time, in which a character asked another character if he wanted Indian, Chinese, or Sri Lankan tea. I’m guessing these elephant pots, if used among those characters, would indicate they contained Indian tea. I don’t know what the other shapes would be…dragons for Chinese? But what for Sri Lanka?

My new shoes arrived yesterday in the late afternoon. They’re Salomons. I didn’t care about the brand so much, but these have a stiffer sole and are good for trails, and also not the squishy sole that a running shoe needs.

We had The Brother of Seattle here for a day, and we took a roam this afternoon, and I have now logged three miles in my New Shoes. And, en route, we found ladybugs of many hues on a crepe myrtle. Now he’s flying back to the Left Coast.
