Spring beckons

Daffy trio newly opened

Trying out the flash on an unsuspecting trio of dan-deeees….

Life upon life

Rainbow fungus

This fungus appears to host an assortment of other life—maybe some are fungi?

Flowers amidst the white

Snow daffodils in the making

While this is a true capture of a moment here today, it is from mid- not late-afternoon, and it’s from the shady side of the house. Still. The snow does persist. Otherwise, the street is almost dry, and the car is snow-free.

Vast

Fuscia orchids

More macro fun

Red multiflor macro d

No Colonel in the conservatory*, just masses of eye-catching orchids, in the new winter display.

Multi-flora

Fleurs pretty

This has become such a gloomy day, it deserves pretty. And we do, too!

Sage, indoors

Yerb pot

This winter’s science experiment is holding on (barely, I think). Thyme anyone?

Branching

Tree above

Found a few exceptionally large trees today (compared to most in the greater neighborhood), protected by, of all things, a cemetery. Of course, at some point the top got blown out of this one, and several other tall trees here, by the winds….

Wintery signal

Camellia early

In this area, I have learned that this bloom is a winter-indicator.

I first wrote that the camellia was a harbinger of winter, but it isn’t quite—it’s not a forerunner, it’s a marker. Etymologically, harbinger is related to harbor—of all things.

Leaf, detail

Tropical giant leaf rib detail

A drippy day deserves a conservatory leaf shot….
