Musings

Red-n-white

All hail the azaleas, harbinger of golf in Augusta.

Ankle level

The drama of the red almost took my breath away (strange, archaic phrase, that), but mostly I think I was stunned because of the sun angle.

Novelties

I do enjoy the “regular” redbuds very much, yet I also always look for the few white redbuds that are scattered in this neighborhood.

This is the first summer “insect” picture, in which I take a flower picture, then find when I look closely at the photo that I also made a bug-portrait.

Deception

Early this evening I looked out the window and was awash in the feeling that I could tell the days were longer. Then I thought about it. Nope; well, a little. Mostly, I was noticing the apparent longer days from the time change.

Details, details

Most of the bulbs are finished blooming. Today I found several flourishing patches of alyssum. Mmmm.

Ah, however, the deep knowledge of the internet says this is commonly called sweet alyssum, if I have it right, but the taxonomists now put it in a related genus these days (Lobularia), so it, taxonomically, has a foot (root?) in two camps.

Non-scientific summary

Redbud buds

I did another blooming check (early? late? same?), and with spotty data over the last few years, I’d say “about the same.”

Comparison

It occurred to me the other day that I could look at previous years and see where the spring blooming was. This is 17 years ago, and we’re at about the same point, maybe a day or two behind.

Nothing earthshaking

The azaleas are coming! The azaleas are coming!

[cheers, and another wave of cheers]

Up and down

This is definitely the story of the day. I heard sandhills above, and I looked and there they were! Last week, I heard, but never spotted them. It was a bit of a let-down to not see them. Today was much better.

Also, here’re some earthbound beauties.

Do not autocorrect to antlers

Sometimes light is pure magic…I’m especially loving the detail of the shadows of the anthers.
