Darien angel

A carved marble (pretty sure) angel, definitely not concrete. Lovely. This is your pretty picture and not the title image.

Jellyball fleet

The first boats are the jellyball boats; the ones downstream closer to the mouth of the river are shrimpers. Jellyballs are a certain jellyfish that they process here by the boatload and send to China/Taiwan (if I have the story right). They are desirable because they are unusual in having a bit of crunch, I hear.

This illustrates how the world economy can link to fairly small, far-away places to extract even a single resource.

Simple details

Pieced stonework

We aren’t into saints, but we do respect romantic love. We splurged on dinner ingredients, a treat for each other. We picked never-frozen Georgia shrimp, and I sautéed them in Euro-butter right before serving…mmmm.

This may not look like it, but it’s public art—a closeup of the “veneer” on a concrete platform for a trash can next to a nearby sand-volleyball court (no beach).

Undecided

Frog shoulder weld

Not about my vote, but about what photo to post. I think I ceded a few IQ points to the sunshine when we soaked it in by Mr. Frog (Reader version) at the ABG. This is his (seems male to me) shoulder weld.

Conservatory mist

At the conservatory, we enjoyed the mystery mist effect.

Orange outdoor table chairs

Sometime we’ll stop here for a snack and a glass of wine. This is the patio refreshment stand, and it’s relatively new. So far, if we eat, we enjoy the café.

Gate view shadow

Bye, ABG.

I contend

Light and no-light is not the same as light and shadow.

Photo day

Clara Meer in flood

Here are assorted photos from our Piedmont Park and BotGarden wander today. Lake Clara Meer is in flood; our favorite water’s-edge stroll is under about 15 cm of lake.

Daffodils in December

These 2016 daffodils are here a year early. Those are brilliant red camellias in the background, but this is their regular time to bloom, or only a bit early.

Lichen roof Japanese garden

I love this aggressive moss garden on the shake roof at the Japanese garden.

Fogged conservatory

In one of the “hot houses,” I arrived just after the foggers shut off. Ethereal.

Busy bee

I was a bit surprised to find the honey bees are also around, not just the untimely early flowers.

Not-ornament

Frog lilypad bullrushes windchime

You can see the frog sitting on the lilypad amidst the bullrushes. What you can’t see is that this not-an-ornament is the topper for a set of wind chimes. Love the remnants of green paint.

Unexpected still lifes

Home patio dining

Quite a patio setup for a sunny weekday afternoon, I thought. Then remembered last weekend our neighborhood hosted a tour of homes. This must have been one that was open.

Doll leg parking lot

Some time later I came across something that caught my eye on the parking lot, looked closely enough to ID it…then went on. And turned back to get a photo. Is part of the backstory that this is outside a fitness facility?

H4WP fountain

Okay, a pretty. I enjoyed walking through the mist from the fountain because the sun was hotter than I anticipated. This one wasn’t unexpected, so the title fibs.

Story lines

Shrimp skewers

Precooked shrimp skewers as floral display….

Ancho chile liquour

Also unpurchased: ancho chile liqueur. (Gee, why?)

Waterlilies of autumn

Very realistic in life, these waterlilies, but somehow the camera captured them as…impressionistic.

There’s a short story or novella in each image in this trio.

New streetlight

Today’s theme is light, both artificial and natural.

Walking the neighborhood yesterday, I noticed a truck with two work-dudes and a load of new streetlamps. After dark I could tell they had stopped in front of our house, although I didn’t spot them here. The new lights are marked LED and the light is less golden and more bright-white. I’ll take a while to get used to them.

Shower light

Here’s afternoon sunlight coming through the cut-glass window insert into the shower…only a little bit of prismatic effect.

* I am out of title ideas…idling on titling? (Okay, clue to title: examine first sentence.Yeah: weak.)

“you’ll see”

Golden light billboard

Pretty compelling golden light coming across the Hudson. This is just inland from where Captain Sullenberger’s Flight 1549 drifted to after the emergency landing. That was 2009. The view is from the High Line; this is the south end, the first part that opened. Also in 2009.
