Rain change

Grounded magnolia petals

Rain today brought changes—it downed pine (and other) pollen, and it downed magnolia petals…and petals of many hues. These are a type of deciduous magnolia with far larger petals than the ones I showed the other day. This tree was so prolific that it created a veritable carpet of petal-decay, still fresh when I strolled by in the mist, but no doubt chemically shifting to the brownish hues as the night marches on.

Red caboose

GM O caboose

As we drove near the northern Mississippi border, I realized I thought of the area only in what I imagined the heat of summer is like. Seeing it under winter overcast, cool(ish), with plants still rather dormant, in essence I couldn’t quite believe I was along the MS-TN border….

PS Happy Pi Day!

Catching the light

Crepe myrtle lowlight

Made it outdoors as the light was getting low in the afternoon, and found a street where I could rev up my vitamin D…and I loved the light on the ripples in the bark of the crepe myrtle*.

* Native of Asia and other places on the other side of the globe….

Where’s the lotion?

Statue skin condition

That’s a bad case of winter-skin. I’m not sure lotion/creme will fix it….

Gravity (fed)

Six springs drainage

I left the house and it was wet out but no precip. Then it got misty. Then light-rainy. Then just wet, and my fancy-fiber pants dried out, and I still kept going. The drain that augments the Six Springs sported a wee waterfall, one of the few times I’ve seen it other than dry.

Too early for hard stuff

Panamas orca1 container ship

What better way to recover from a five-mile stroll around town (with lots of stops) in the cold, than hot tea at a rooftop bar in mid-afternoon.*

* Bonus: the teenagers were back at the room watching “Bones.” And, yes, tea-time….

Disorganized

After sun glow ATL

I futzed around and didn’t get out to see the sky until the orange-golds had arrived. The trees are all still winter-skeletons, but change is coming. I did find one Prunus, I think a cherry, with blooms on a few lower branches. Must mean a cold snap is coming….

Crick in neck?

Metal man pondering

I have problems “getting” sculptures and poetry sometimes. I like this anthropomorphic form very much, but I find the hands creepy…so I’m not showing them. Anyway, “he” has a great view of northern downtown/southern Midtown.

Incongruity in the city

Drinking fountain woods

I do enjoy the occasional strange urban juxtapositions, like a drinking fountain in the woods.

Actually, I’m deceiving you. Off to the right, out of the photo, is a tennis court….

Fountain, artificial

H4WP fountain

Today, I ventured down the new(ish) ramp (aka Gateway Trail) that connects the Historic Fourth Ward Park* with the Beltline, angling along the Georgia Power yard between the two. Love this fountain, especially when the wind catches the water and turns it into blowing mist. I’ll like that effect even more when it’s hot out, although today I ventured forth in only a t-shirt (on top, that is!)…I hear it won’t be quite so nice tomorrow….

* Abbreviated H4WP or H4W Park. Just FYI.
