Musings

A spring day, way early

The weather was glorious today, so we took stroll-and-sit leisurely walk at Old Fourth Ward park, languidly enjoying the sunshine. This, however, was a look-over-the-railing moment.

I’m being watched

I’m calling this The Perch…beloved by the odd squirrel and bird. Not that this squirrel is odd…just squirrelly. Probably Mama Squirrelly.

On a tangent

I was (somewhat) immersed in the genetics of people buried in the Mesolithic in what is now Denmark, but I managed to tear myself away and take advantage of the sunshine for a few minutes. I planned this shot to focus on the foreground, but I kinda like the way it turned out; I did know the light would be delightful (get it? sorry.). 🤣

Huh?

I took this aiming at the cluster of “helicopters.” Then, preparing for posting, I saw the haycorn-hats, and thought: wha? A maple-oak? Howze that? 🤣🤣🤣

I’m hypothesizing again

I call this Heron Pool, below this aerating waterfall, as I once saw a great blue wading and stalking koi here. Within a week or so, the pool was mesh-covered. Now, there are fish and no mesh, yet I have not seen the heron. In the center of the pool there’s a Japanese maple, and it’s now much larger and more sheltering than it was years ago when I saw the hunting heron. How ’bout when all the leaves are gone, though?

Cool and sunny

I stepped this way and then that way to get the power lines out of this shot, but I haven’t words to go with it.

Ready for soccer balls

On the 23rd, this was a near-empty tree lot with assorted fenced-in detritus abandoned…I thought. However, someone swooped in and the tree lot detritus no longer lingers. The only remaining clue of the sales lot that moved hundreds of trees is a line of blown-in leaves where the fence was (foreground).

Streetside tale

I stopped to take this photo, thinking there was some clever statement I could make about lights on the verge…but on the verge of what?

Then, this beauteous buteo flew in left-to-right, and landed on the sidewalk. Wha????

Of course, the bird didn’t linger, and flew down the street ahead of me, then veered off to the right.

I still don’t have a line about the verge…but I did end up with a fine, albeit brief, hawk story.

Lake views

We took a stroll around Piedmont Park to enjoy the afternoon sunshine, and found not one but two great blue herons. This is the second one. We’ve never spotted two here before (they weren’t together). Whee! We also saw many Muscovy ducks and no mallards or Canada geese (I don’t know why).

Here’s the long view from the other side of Lake Clara Meer. I’m mystified as to why the camera’s internal controls opted to make it appear to be an approaching-sunset shot. It was not; it was 3:36 pm, so mid-to-late-afternoon.

Tableau

Cement cat statue and pale pumpkin, both on a long landscaping stone imitating a ledge, plus a tamarack draping over it all, with abundant pinestraw decoration…qualifies as a tableau to me.
