Musings

I’m not a particular fan of diplomats, although I greatly appreciate all the work they do, which is frequently behind the scenes. I’m not sure why TV series writers recently have seized on a diplomat as the lead in stories, but we’ve watched both the Keri Russell version and the British one, binging the latter most recently. They’re very different. I think I enjoyed the British version, set in Barcelona, more. Confession: it was not merely to opportunity to hear Catalan dialogue that made it more interesting.

Here’s a sample of recent finds along our beach. What you don’t see is beer bottle frags and plastic trash—too boring to curate. The rusty metal at the rear of the display is a piece of a wood stove that once had some decorative curlicues that now are ghostly remnants on the surface. At one time, this stretch of the bluff must have been the household dump for at least one residence, and now the trash has moved downhill.

Here at the cottage, unlike at the city house, we have a garage; however, it is not electrified. So, we charge the plug-in hybrid from the cottage, like this, then relocate the car to the garage when juiced.
The orange light on the ferns is from the porch (this was just a few minutes ago), and you can see that rain+unpaved_road means the car is again muddy. We are so glad to be here, even so.

The wall sign reads “THE GREEN BEAN OUT BACK,” and there’s another sign with the same words facing the road, here obscured by vegetation.
My guess: “out back” indicates “behind” a building to the left (not shown), and on the corner of two locally busy roads. The “green bean” part I have no suggestion…after all, it’s on a yellow wall. And, as to the use of the building…informal club?

I am beyond aggravated at discussions of poll results showing a candidate ahead/behind, when both values are within the margin of error…meaning they could be equal, or they could be the reverse of what is offered in the text, as in this article in the NYTimes. Rrrrrrgh. The Times isn’t the only “reputable” source doing this. Double rrrrrrgh.

Do I notice the botanical detritus that accumulates in the gutters more because I grew up with snow drift-ettes that recurred in those locations?

I reached back to this day in 2021 for a photo. Sometimes the past is great fun to visit, and a distraction from the present.

We toured across piedmont Georgia to lunch with relatives, then returned. Along the way, I spotted a sign reading horse supplies that tickled my funny bone. Still does. After all, who would want an unsupplied horse?

Today, I dodged current events after…well, hmm, moving on….
Let’s just say that the weather’s been hot and humid everywhere I’ve been the last two days; however, now that I’m in ATL, it’s buffered by AC. At the moment, I’m being selfish and not green about this.
