Musings
Label on the famous Bigfoot RMJ camper.
I know Robert and Mary Jo because years ago, Robert was my boss at a long-gone plant nursery on the outskirts of Portland (Oregon). I only worked there one summer, and only part of that ’cause I headed back to Michigan to attend KayakWoman’s wedding to the GG, held in the sunshine on the beach near Brimley. Because I went to KW’s wedding, I missed R&MJ’s.
That fall I continued to work for Robert, planting trees on a sloping field a few miles from the nursery. That time is a blur, for the most part, but I remember working bent over in misty rain, knees embedded in soft, dark brown, slightly moist soil, hands in gloves, placing bare-root trees in their new homes.

Even though the post office lady helped that disturbed student get a zip code for his “manifesto” package (sent between shooting sprees and before the one he knew would be his final one), they still managed to get an incorrect code, and it took more than one wrong one before it was corrected, so it only arrived at NBC today. Irk.
Me? Lovely day, walked to the Bot Garden, but not in. Lots of fleurs, including this elegant iris.

I watched the digital outdoor thermometer drop from 30.2°F to 29.8°F around 7:15 this morning, tying the low record for the day. “Unseasonably cold” doesn’t adequately describe it! Fortunately, it’s breezy enough that nothing has apparently frozen. I hear of snow flurries in the mountains and northern suburbs. Brrrrrr!

Yesterday crews across Piedmont Park mowed and trimmed, but these guys, busy generating branches to feed an Intimidator, may have been having the most fun.
Tonight we’ve been warned to expect temps at or just below freezing, even here under the city’s weather bubble. It’s already clear and breezy, just right to usher in those low temps.

Southern Michigan—no snow like yesterday in the UP; instead, rain (don’t ask me why the flag is still out, but they do have a light on it…). No tripod (trípie, for those of you learning (Mexican) Spanish—say tree-pee-eh, the last syllable pronounced like the last word of “Say yah! to the UP, eh!”), so the image is blurry, but I love the colors!

Redbuds on their way to blooming are emblematic of spring (see tomorrow).

Gorgeous day here in the Piedmont, nearly 70°F this afternoon—(almost) unbelievable. The ornamental cherries and their relatives have begun to shine. We even saw a few of the petals drifting in the breeze.

Even before the tornadoes hit Alabama (sadly, 18 dead already in AL and beyond), we saw rain here. Between the drops, jcb and I got a wee walk in….
Welcome to March!
