Liriodendron life

Liriodendron tulipifera is dropping its tulips in the wind.

New destination

Today’s big adventure: hoofing it to our new TJs.

Fleur power

Even though the post office lady helped that disturbed student get a zip code for his “manifesto” package (sent between shooting sprees and before the one he knew would be his final one), they still managed to get an incorrect code, and it took more than one wrong one before it was corrected, so it only arrived at NBC today. Irk.

Me? Lovely day, walked to the Bot Garden, but not in. Lots of fleurs, including this elegant iris.

Smiley jug

Am I ever a cynic! I looked at this whimsy in a milk jug and wondered how calculated the marketing decision-makers were—and decided, no, it was highly deliberate.

Homegrown terrorism

mahonia.jpg

Painful day. Our nation’s getting too good at generating homegrown terrorists, with few of those huge Homeland tax dollars going to the kinds of social programs and community enrichment that might stem the tide, hate to say.

Freaked

Last week, JCB garnered a fine pile of cards, and this is the most dramatic! Even more so than those with “50” on the front!

I dreamed that JCB and I were at the White House, in a holding room that had the feel of the room I waited in to see if I’d be called for jury duty, except this one had tall windows letting in sunlight along three walls.

There was an air of expectation, and a woman came around to talk to each group. When she got to us, she had a bottle of pills, and she gave us eight, saying they were antibiotics that we had to take starting now in preparation for our “audience.” They had a blue wash on the surface, somewhat like Easter-egg dye but it came off on your hand (no M&M’s these!).

I suffered some consternation because I didn’t know when we were supposed to take the rest of the series, but did take one.

Then I woke up.

Sign instructions

Signs: commands from those not present, hopeful that passers-by will pay attention.

Sock exploit

sock_heel.jpg

Even though I didn’t have sock yarn, back in the mists of time, I knitted socks (and gloves). I guess, lacking sock yarn, I added thread in the heel (why emerald green?), but this pair was never worn enough to affirm that it improved durability.

Archive tulip

From a couple of weeks ago, I had to make sure I got this white tulip and its insect minders saved for posterity (and spidering).

Big Day!

JCB’s b-day, one of those zero years. I slightly modified the richest of today’s (!) NYTimes brownie recipes as the requested cake substitute.

For reflections, see bloggage by JCB himself, and recollections at NN.com.
