Musings

A zinnia? And its zinnia buddy? I think there’s a short story in this visual vignette.

My eye was caught by the flag’s backlighting. It’s meh here, but was lovely in real life. Apologies if I’ve posted a version of this before….

(Translation from the IKEA lingo = ) A half-dozen inexpensive steak knives. Meaning they saw a bit more than slice. Which can be workable, but, better that a steak knife cuts.
Didn’t serve beef-steak this evening, but pork tenderloin medallions with sautéed mushrooms. Mmmm.
An independent evaluator might rule that I’m skipping the day’s household headline: GooFiber arrived! We now are speedy-fast! The speed metric increased from 20ish to over 900! That’s acceleration! Pad your neck and avoid whiplash!

Lily bloom with attendant or insect-visitor.

Aesthetic cone flower bloom.

Fungus the size of a serving platter, on a tree root.
You may sort these differently. I went for life-duo (flower and insect), one life (a bloom), and a fading life-form. Give me time to think about and I may say: no hierarchy.
These things are complicated.

It never occurred to me to think about decoding firewood collection behaviors from the archaeological record—reconstructing species burned from the charcoal/ash, yes, but not all the collecting as a social behavior.
I’m pretty sure Sebastian the Ginger Cat has never thought about firewood.
BTW, the Spanish for firewood is leña. It’s not in the typical travelers’ Spanish vocabulary list. Translations of beer, toilet, laundry, please and thank you, yes—but not firewood.

We are simple people (?), lately binge-watching the new season of House of Upside-Down Flag and rejoicing that Rachel Maddow is back. [Fill-ins were competent, but no else one is Rachel!] One of us (not me) has also been distracted with the latest Apple news/new products.
“Pink” in the title just refers to the flower.

It’s magnolia season! With hydrangeas. And gardenias. And more. Plenty floral out there!

Also, the ’maters that were on the plant when we brought it home are a fine red—and splashed with soil from the rain. And split; hard to think they grew too fast…they’re the size of musketballs…and not much larger than when I planted them.

I took this photo thinking that I had the capability of producing a cleverly obscure comment to accompany it. Turns out: no.

So, here’s a posing lantana bloom. I went out for a stroll, thinking the rain was slacking off. Turns out: no; I was so wrong. I managed to convince my camera (aka phone) to obey my fingertips and not the raindrops it seemed to be seduced by, and here we have a flower photo against the odds. Lousy, but still….
Reminder: don’t sing either….

We had a lazy day—for agriculturalists…wait, we’re just tourists at another B&B—and this one is very familiar. No fresh fruit, though; I’m going to downgrade it a bit on tripadvisor or similar. Oh, wait. The food selection is up to MEEEEEE! And I can report that the ’maters are still green.
Fun that the b-day guy and the niece visited for a bit. We are lucky folk! We gave them a gardenia (close your eyes and inhale), but no green tomatoes.

Teaching a youngster about drone-fun….

Catching a snap of a lovely sunset sky through a bug-smeared windshield. Not all those grayish smears are clouds.
That’s another circa 2K mile (driving) trip behind us. Note that ending this past Wednesday, we had clocked five countries in eight days.

The story I heard about Ohio’s dome-less capital is that the state ordered then couldn’t pay for its dome, which then was sold to Georgia. Certainly, this building looks like it’s missing verticality.
I didn’t set out to have an Ohio theme today, but that’s what I have the best pictures of. Busy day, with lots going on.
I can also mention that somewhere on US2, the “new” car hit 10K miles. It was 7:54am, and the temperature outside was 51°F and the average gas consumption for all those miles clocked in at 58.0 mpg. That wasn’t all the fuel; we also plugged in for an electric boost for quite a few of those miles.

Near Parkersburg WV are several bridges across the Ohio River. This is a newish one.

This one’s a bit older; the vehicle bridge is closer to me, and the railroad bridge is behind it.
