This is a city hall, although I find the architectural philosophy matching ever so many county courthouses. Including the cannon. Unusual to be painted silver an to have a chunk of 2×6 blocking the barrel.
I confess I had to look up the USS Maine, as my recollection was too foggy. Ah, the Maine sank in Havana’s harbor, and at the time officials said it had been by a mine, but now it’s thought to be from an internal explosion. Anyway, that kicked off a whole war. Yikes.
Snow report: we saw flakes; we saw sleet; we saw fleeting sunshine. Mostly we drove through rain. And here’s a large rotten snow pile with some fresher frosting…the overall report is rain and melting.

We drove far enough north today that we found pears in bloom, rather lushly decorative among these old (for the Midwest) buildings…
…not far from the Uh-Hi-Uh river.
Fun fact: although many boundaries that follow rivers track the middle of the river, or what was at one time the middle, somehow, that’s not so for the Ohio River. Indeed, the state of Ohio, The Guru (aka Mr Ohio) says, doesn’t “have” any of its namesake river.

This is not charming, although I do find it interesting, mostly, I guess, in the lineup of blue trashcans and the double row of meters. And, then there’re the liberated cables and wires. I’m rather glad I don’t have an apartment in this complex, I must admit.

Probably along with twenty-seven or eighty-four (or more?) other television stations around the USA, one of our local affiliates’ weather team is using a new (to them) hot phrase for select days ahead with a worrisome prediction. They call them First Alert days. And now that they’ve been using this marketing model for a few weeks, I noticed that the promotional phrase has been turned into a verb, as in: “I’m First Alerting Thursday.” Evolution in front of our very ears.

The movie equipment and orange cones were in the alley and hardware parking lot. I don’t know if they were also over by the green house, as I didn’t walk that way. Is this confusing? All the equipment was parked, and no one was around it, so the only conclusion I could come to: no movie work on this half-rainy day. [But, were they shooting in one of the bars? Or? I didn’t walk that way either, so: unknown.]

I thought a year ago that new construction in our general area would die down. How wrong I was. Here’s what I call the empty tooth socket stage.
And here is the new underway. I heard four nail guns busy simultaneously.
And even the casserole heat-and-eat place is getting an upgrade…and while that’s underway, they have a temporary parking lot freezer (with its own generator). Yes, the lot is very desnivel (Spanish for un-level).

Nice colors in the sunrise sky. I looked the other way, and saw the moon, too, but it wasn’t photogenic (roofs).
Channel flipping brought us a few minutes of a replay of the closing ceremonies. I know that was supposed to be a stylized snowflake, but it looked more like a star in a Christmas play to me. I’m sure the Chinese officials did not expect a Christian interpretation. Did they use international focus groups?
