Musings

Over at PiedPk, I found many good-sized log-turtles. They do a great job of balancing their nearly-planar shell-bottoms on the rounded logs.

I also found this pale pink redbud. Pretty sure it’s a redbud, anyway.

Coming through PiedPk, we periodically found ourselves drenched the scent of apple-blossoms. I call this shot apple blossom cloud. Different kind of cloud than I’m usually dealing with….
Mostly, we roamed the ABG. We saw the Orchid Show—which was only the section winners, and kinda strange (best books, best arrangement…some seemed off-point to me). We saw the snapping turtle with his mouth open underwater (he’s been frisky this winter/spring)—only photo is…mostly reflection, so I haven’t presented it.

The bulbs are their own show, although the choice to plant all tulip beds with two colors struck me as…a different kind of staid, and too similar to monochromatic in perceived energy levels. Not sure why.

The Chihuly atop the fountain was gone, we figured in prep for the bigger show that’s coming in April. Then we found the armature and pieces disassembled and laid out across the floor of one of the rental rooms. Problem solved.

I didn’t find the label on this but assume it’s some azalea variant with thin, spidery petals. Looked distorted. But still pretty.

Not sure what to write about; I’m immersed in an embarrassment of riches.
Above, Xocolatl hazelnut-chocolate spread on Walker’s shortbread, topped with fresh raspberries. Spectacular simple dessert….

And this, well, the redbuds are opening. Even though I took a happy photo.

The light-starved hyacinths are greening and growing. What color will the blossoms be??? Pins and needles.

Mini- pot?bucket?tank?tub? of yellow hyacinths. Very short ones. We’ll see if they put on a growth spurt. A surprise from our kindly accountant; thanks, V.

The quince* is now in full bloom after at least two attempts that were quelled by cold. I love the wiry twisted branches as much as the flowers. Thanks, D&F.
It’s a Chaenomeles spp., and not the fruit quince, which is Cydonia oblonga and the only member of that genus. The blossoms look apple/cherry/plum-ish, as they are also members of the Rosaceae family.

I like the lighter color now revealed on the redbud-buds; they were smaller and tighter on the third (yeah, this is what the march of time looks like measured via a spring-time shrub).

Walking down a street with my thoughts lost in the news-via-earbuds, I surfaced enough to realize bobbing gold-yellow blobs down both sides of the street, not evenly spaced, but…present. So, I focused. And realized they were flags marking underground utilities. Except this one.

Then, I kept my eyes open, and saw a blooming Prunus spp., cherry or plum, probably.

And this ornamental with so many buds right along the leaf bases. Don’t know what this is at all.

This morning was sunshine and potential.

This afternoon (and continuing) was rain, sleet-and-rain, and rain…and gloominess. We had enough sleet to accumulate in the gutter (well, on top of the aging leaves), and to blow-out my snap (only shot one; such confidence😀).

Sometime while I was gallivanting south of here, this hyacinth opened. Not the most flattering photo….
