Moon omen

From this house we don’t have a good view of the low-light parts of the day (faves for me), but this morning I caught a nice view of the light-graduation-transition (cropped out of this shot), ornamented by a waning crescent moon.

Grasping at straws

Every once in a while I congratulate myself, very privately, on coming up with a mildly clever title for a blog photo. I called this one “lawn_jockeys.” These plants, whatever they are, are robust these days in neighborhood lawns, while simultaneously the grass is thin and de-energized. Perhaps the name only kinda makes sense.

Garden decisions

This volunteer redbud, which needs to be removed yet hasn’t gone to the compost pile, is holding one last, and very colorful, leaf. Inspiring?

Illusoriness

Sky is blue

After a long series of murky days, having a sunny, pleasant day meant I was sure I could tell our day-length has increased since the shortest day…was it? Which day? Only the shortest day is ahead of us—it’s the 21st. Next week! Hah.

Glimpse back

This is the sky I was looking at three years ago, on 14 Dec 2019, somewhere north of Albuquerque. Little did we know what was coming that winter.

Hey, bud

One lovely thing about being in Atlanta in December (and January and February)*—camellias in bloom.

We shall see

I didn’t pay close attention to the weather prediction this morning, and got the impression that we’d have off-and-on rainy weather. Turns out that this afternoon was to be—and was—lovely. Next lovely time will usher in the weekend.

Rock art

Another day with plenty of rain, but not all day. After all, it’s the rainy season.

Light times

Light show. Does it put you in the holiday spirit? Me? Not so much.

On the up and up

Went to what passes for a fancy bakery around here. It’s more than a bakery with wine and sandwiches and a deli mmmmm. I always find the colors of the macarons interesting. I usually think of them as including brighter colors. I didn’t ask what the flavors are. Use your imagination.

These are the fancy bakery items we did bring home. A raspberry cheesecake swirl. Love cheesecake. Love raspberry. And a crème brûlée. MMmmmm.
