We’re coming out of a run of cold days, and we’re headed for some lovely warm days before cold rolls in again. The warmth is enough to get the pollen going, in a bit of an ironic twist.

Binging tonight on A Man on the Inside, the Ted Danson “vehicle,” mostly because we were up for a comedy. We’ve been…enjoying it. Really.

At 9:30 this morning, the leaner was still rooted to the ground—ish.

By early afternoon, the top was removed and both the leaner and the one that fell away from our house were mostly removed.

Shortly before the guys closed down for the day, the leaner’s stump was removed, and the one that fell was merely a stub of a sump.

The elegance and carefulness of the work crew was something to behold (pardon the passive voice).

Despite today’s gustiness…

…the tree guys climbed high, tied off this direction and that, fired up chainsaws, and took down two trees. I was surprised to see how much core rot one of them had…. Happily, they have a plan to remove the tricky, leaning, good-sized tree tomorrow

It’s a little early for irises to be blooming, unless you visit the Georgia O’Keeffe show (closing, what?, tomorrow?). She painted a single iris on a very vertical canvas. It looks rather different cropped like this.

Here’s where the deciduous magnolia trees/blooms were three years ago on this day; the buds are not this far along this year…and there’s a cold snap coming.

Once upon a time, this was a busy business, I’m sure. Now: nothing (beyond graffiti tagging).

With populations, demographic analysts may talk about central places, that is: places with clusters of residents. I’m thinking there are business central places, too. This one is a has-been, a now-unbusy business. Also, this is what cycling looks like.

A line of storms came through about 4:45am…very hard rain and wind. When daylight came, we saw two big trees down in our back yard, but not on or (I think) threatening a structure. Noontime, we had a tree guy out assessing the situation. We’re on track for tree “extraction” beginning tomorrow morning.

Flower center.

Georgia O’Keeffe: White Flower, 1929.

White Flower, super contrasty, altered. The “grooves” that section the petals are interesting; I didn’t notice them standing in front of the painting, although they are plain as day. Instead, I noticed the subtle shading of the colors…yellows, blues, blue-greens…and the background in the upper corners.
