Musings

Extras

At BookClub, we always talk about more than The Book. This time, we also went out to check our hostess’s new patio upgrade (already had the waterfall; the fireplace is new), and furthermore did a bit of star-gazing (not shown—heh).

Story line

Sturdy leaf. Sunshine warmth. Stationary insect.

Over and out

I can’t figure an angle on this photo, today’s weather and news, and what I have read lately that doesn’t seem trite. So, I beg off with a simple goodnight.

Mantel, wreath, candlesticks

Isn’t this a fab wreath! [It’s the neighbor’s, along with many other wonderful decorations, some even real and smelling…wonderfully evergreen.]

This makes a fine still-life, no?

Who’s the boss?

All too often, the fine print is sooooo important.

Sun-lit

Lucky me. The light was so right on these nandina berries this afternoon.

But they’re pretty

Cut flowers are usually shipped miles, often by air. Also, they are often irrigated, including if grown in a hot-house (or similar). Thus, cut flowers are not-green green…and essentially represent a transfer of water from one part of the world to another…where they are thrown out, or sometimes composted (probably with chemicals (herbicides?) on them).

Institutional housing

Back in 1902, officials opened a penitentiary south of Atlanta, and now amidst neighborhoods and other development. The property was centered on a secure, walled facility for the inmates, and had several nearby buildings, including homes. Here’s one, long unoccupied. What a weird thing to be a kid growing up here.

Survivors = troopers ?

We had rain off and on all day, and I looked out into the gloom at one point, and a sprig of a 5 foot tree in the understory sported bright yellow leaves, such survivors.

I found out today that coral and jade are the 35th wedding anniversary materials.

Religion on an island

Glad to hear the huge teams of artisans, engineers, and many other specialists have been able to get this building open again. I enjoyed walking all the way around the cathedral; it’s huge and not just a façade. Double-duh.
