Musings

Already…

Hyacinth seed

…the white hyacinth is going to seed. It’s almost as fast at the life-cycle as the weeds….

Not just timing

White ground fleurs

The sun was full on these posies when I ran to get my camera…not fast enough….

I wondered today if coercion makes me queasier than violence, or about the same. Thought provoked by TV shows….

Garden beauty

Cherokee rose opening

Loving our Cherokee rose today. This bud has just opened enough to reveal the crowd of golden stamens. This is a climbing variety, and boy do its shoots need trimming. After the blooming….

Awaiting bees

Azalea cluster white

The azaleas I admire through the back picture window are opening, but at a slower pace than I remember. Now there are branches of open blooms, but less than a quarter of the whole plant. I can’t remember when I planted it…maybe a year or two after we moved in?

Swapped reality

Orchid white CU

This morning I spent wondering when the garbage truck was going to come by, like it was a Monday. I’m not sure why I thought it was a Monday, why it felt like a Monday.

In honor of mixed up days, here’s an orchid-center that looks like a lovely almost-symmetrical paint splotch…from the other day.

Oh, azalea

Azalea buds
Azalea bloom white

The azalea that’s in the backyard and easiest for me to watch is still mostly buds, but it’s on the verge of…burgeoning!

The ones in the front yard are the near-fluorescent pink, and they’re still buds, too.

Healthy azaleas are stunners—they’re so dense with blooms.

Here’s just one of a few opened buds. I can’t discern any patterns to the few that are opened—they’re not just where there’s more sun, for example.

Flowers in waves

Dogwood blossom solo

Our tree is full out, as are others, but some will attain this glory in the next few days.

Made the rounds

Lady and leafing out

It is leafing-out time. Last week, just a hint of green in the trees. Look at them now!

Delicate iris beardedmaybe

And the delicate early-spring blooms are nearing the end of their rotation. Love irises. Should the plural really be “iri”? Better in poetry?

Savoy cabbage

Over in the fancy, decorative veg-garden at the ABG, the last of the overwintering species are hanging on, although the kale is getting leggy.

ABG small orchid

Here’s a small specimen from the showy and not-so-showy orchids scattered amongst the greenery and other-season plants in the conservatories. I’m not usually a pink person, but the shades in this one take my breath away.

Redwood bonsai

The bonsai society held down the show-room, along with vendors of Japanese display rocks and the proper low tables for bonsai display. Here’s a closeup of the stems of…get this!…REDWOODS. What patience to create and maintain this miniature tree-garden!

ABG tools new restaurant

The architectural changes are beginning to show, also. The hidey-walls are coming down and we can see more than just the upper story of the new restaurant. We are told it is to be open along with the new Chihuly exhibit at the end of April.

Just a few hours at the Atlanta BotGarden….

Leaf burgeoning (redbud)

Redbud blooms new leaf

When the weather is unseasonably HOT, Spring arrives at an accelerated rate.

It IS spring

Yellow magnolia

On the BeltLine, I found this yellow magnolia. I wonder if it’s a less robust plant…not sure why, though….

Poss crocus

Then, in the BotGarden, I think this is a crocus, but a very splayed one, if that is what it is.

Conservatory closeup

Here’s a random closeup from the conservatory, presently decorated with blooming orchids. Somehow, it’s not quite visual overkill.

Fungus label

And this was just plain strange. Huge pot with a tree in it…and a fungus showing a propensity to cover the world, beginning with a label. Where’s Supergal? Batdude? Who’s to save us?
