Musings

We did a family dinner tonight at my FIL’s, just to socialize—no holiday, no birthday to celebrate.
My most colorful (?) contributions were key lime pie (without key limes, see my recipe) and scrumptious cranberry sauce (best cultivated cranberries I’ve ever had—so dark and flavorful).
Best, however, was seeing everyone.
Even though UGA lost… On the other hand, MichState trounced Nebraska….

Patient Reader: after a long string of mostly plants, I thought I’d shift to the critter kingdom and give you some…variation.

The new phone comes with a slo-mo video setting that some are raving about, but I haven’t tried yet.
I’m still messing with the less-fancy options.

Last night I heard a rumor that the S stuff may put in an appearance this coming weekend. Here.
Right now it’s raining—just started.
So, good thing I made applesauce this morning when it was merely overcast!

That’s my (legendary?) Buck-mug, which I took with Buck‘s permission from his grill and diner in Burwell way back in the mists of time.
Up here in the middle of nowhere, we are using a French press (aka plunger pot). The coffee that is slightly more mellow with our home drip machine tastes a bit edgy here, but I’m getting used to that. Yes, along with the extra steps it takes to rinse the grounds off the press-parts out by the long grass (aka substitute for a compost pile).

Good thing I did this yesterday; it’s all rainy today. The Guru and I walked from tree to tree in the upper orchard area, tasting apples and picking a few here and there for the applesauce. Some cooked to mush and some didn’t. Too bad I didn’t keep track for pie-making….
My sense is the apples had better size, and less scab this year. And less icky problem areas that had to be cut away before cooking, in general.
Is this an effect of climate change? Har.

I saw the green-white logo and knew I was supposed to think SBux, but really, the rest of that design mishmash doesn’t look SBux at all.

These ca. 10 cm zuccs have become a favorite. They’re really uniform in size, a mystery to me. Are there vast fields of plants with synchronized blooming?
