Musings
When I ran to get the camera, there was another layer of bubbles below the base of the bowl that made a second cool layer of circles. Pfft. That’s bubbles.
Can. Not. Get. Into. Game of Thrones. The text version. Seems draggy.
Can. Not. Get. Into le Carré’s latest, A Delicate Truth. Seems like a lot of repetition from pieces of many of his last few novels.
And, the library bumped me even though I had a hold on my Book Club book. Sigh.
As to the Romans, today I worked on figuring out the Pompey complex, that is, a theater, portico, curia, and other bits, away from the Forum, over in the Campus Martius. The other day it was Augustus’s Mausoleum. So, right at the moment I’m working south.
Movie report: watched Netflix’s delivery of Lars and the Single Girl. I wouldn’t have put it in the comedy category. Pretty much happy to watch…Patricia Clarkson in anything.

Sometimes the golden hour and a good place to pull off the road with just the right backlighting all happen simultaneously. I photographed this irrigation mechanism for almost ten minutes…sooo fascinating. (Thank you, patient Guru!)

Don’t want to discuss server situation (total helplessness here).
Someone (initials: The G) made Sharpies. Such talent.
I don’t think this is a reaction to seeing a 3-D printer up close the other week….

Close-up of large piece by Eve of Athens. Eve used recycled materials to make these tranquil, organic forms.
We day-tripped today to Athens to do an errand and—bonus!—meet up with our niece, and to check out her “new” (that is new this student calendar year—we’re slow) place. Really liked the place. Met a roommate we hadn’t met before, who is preparing an art show. This piece will be installed in industrial architectural ruins that are covered with green vines and plants. Sorry to miss the final, complete effect….
Great fun and yum dining at The Grit…. Ah, Golden Bowl….

I’m not sure why cannons welcome you to the zoo, but that’s the way it is down here. I guess the cannons relate to the cyclorama, as they share an entrance, but most people go to the zoo. Especially since the cyclorama is closed on Sundays (of all things given the zoo crowds; probably with budget shortfalls, too).
Anyway, this is a view up from below the cannon barrel. Rainfall tracks. Patterns distorted by the slight upward angle of the barrel.
I would have said this meant green-grey, but no, my sources say it’s a corruption via Middle English of the Old French vert de Grece, or green of Greece.

Storms overnight meant neither of us slept well. After a nap this morning, when it finally got quiet, I got sucked into Paul Lukacs’ Inventing Wine (2012). We might not recognize the liquid the ancients called wine as such. This means there’s been quite a migration of meaning—interesting…along with changes in manufacturing…. For starters, to the ancients quality wines were made from raisinized grapes, not fresh ones. Also, the liquid wasn’t sealed from oxygen, so the flavor migrated; can’t say I’d be excited about swilling the vinegarish stuff….

What you can’t tell about this picture is that the light only strikes here when the sun angle transits through the equinox phases of the year. And we’re close—it’s the 20th of this month….
