Low-light & coarse_grained

Night sky by Callanwolde

We often hermit come nightfall, but this evening we attended Diane’s opening.

Jacket weather

At the BotGarden yesterday…this guy is so cold he’s frozen in time….

For whole months lately I found it difficult to convince myself that our weather might actually turn cool this fall. Data are now clear. Morning temps down around sixty—that’s six-oh.

Quintessential

Late summer leaf raindrops

Quintessential here refers to the raggedy shape and yellowing of this late-summer leaf. Everything about it says late summer, in this case with an embroidery of raindrops.

Indeed, in the five minutes since I took this picture, while I was photostreaming and prepping, the rain arrived with force. I’m glad I was out in the first few drops, and I’m glad I’m inside as the heavier stuff descends.

Time to move the SPV

A good rain overnight will help our vegetation immensely (including inducing the tomatoes to split), but, oy!, the humidity today. I took it easy during my oh-dark-thirty trek as a result, and enjoyed the light ground fog created by our overnight meteorological situation.

Hump Day? August? Where does the time go?

SPV = street-parked vehicle

For better or worse, the transportation tax we voted on yesterday went down in all counties.

I’m now living in Mountain-Lion-land, and am handing my RSS feeds differently. Hmm. Reading patterns have changed.

Pleasant out (both temp and humidity) at my early morn exit time—due in part to this cloud cover?

Progress of many kinds

Rain arrives splish splash

Lucky me, I rolled in before lunch, ate a few of the yellow pear-tomatoes, and unloaded the Joad-mobile (aka BGT) in bright sunlight and raging humidity (except for the furniture that needs two people to move). I found the house in good order, and, even better, the AC working. Same with the shower. Nice!

Our kind, kind neighbors took pity on solo-me, and invited me over for porch-time, wine, and chili (yum!). As we sat on the porch, we watched the lightning flash lighting the sky particularly to the north and west, but without issue. The precip arrived much later, after I had returned home. Oh, the plants are happy now, after more than two hours of rainfall!

Stop—and go, too

Dry, dry, dry when we hit the hay last night, but a serious rain-storm came through about 5AM, allowing the plants to be revitalized. We figured it was M&D smiling down on us, setting us up for a quiet moment distributing their ashes under the huge double white pine, where MaryAnn suggested.

Then we hit the road, having bookended things, as far as my emotional center is concerned.

I am so glad I don’t have to endure this heat without AC. I admit it. Ca. 80°F at 6AM—yeesh.

The tomatoes, however, with frugal applications of dish water, seem to be thriving.

Local rainfall variability

Rain came…twice…south of the tracks. At our place, several miles north of the tracks: still powder dry. And so, tomorrow I will collect my dishwater and dump it on my ’maters.

Mellow Saturday

Rainy and overcast today, so we read, did podcasts (guess who?), and generally spent an unstructured, quiet day, looking alternately down at the page/screen or out the window.

I tried to perfect my slow heat technique from the wood stove, and have honed it a bit—helps to have wet wood, thank you, Ma Natchurr.
