Musings
On today’s park-walk I saw a very few daffodils (but none of their bulb-brethren), one scraggly forsythia (not common in these parts), several pink camellias, and various pre-blooms like this on (I think) an assortment of malus varieties. I suspect this one’s an ornamental cherry.

…from the mountains last weekend…
This morning I noticed it’s getting light earlier—for the first time in this winter-ending portion of the annual seasonal cycle.
Today’s vocabulary: part/fragment/segment…
The whole is equal to the sum of its parts—part being a general term for any of the components of a whole. But how did the whole come apart? Fragment suggests that breakage has occurred (fragments of pottery) and often refers to a brittle substance such as glass or pottery. Segment suggests that the whole has been separated along natural or pre-existing lines of division (a segment of an orange), and section suggests a substantial and clearly separate part that fits closely with other parts to form the whole (a section of a bookcase). Fraction usually suggests a less substantial but still clearly delineated part (a fraction of her income), and a portion is a part that has been allotted or assigned to someone (her portion of the program). Finally, the very frequently used piece is any part that is separate from the whole.
…definition from the Apple Dictionary, of course….

From Tuesday….
Does anyone else find it ironic that some of Hillary Clinton’s staff are currently not taking their paychecks, while Romney, leaving the race, will give his staff another two weeks of pay? And especially ironic that Clinton dumped a hunk of cash in her campaign coffer, but apparently not enough to pay her people?
And she’s the Democrat!!
PS Can you imagine more spin than Romney’s reason for leaving the race—to avoid continuing to fracture his party’s supporter’s votes…. He’s gotta be positioning himself for his post-candidate employment/consulting….

Okay, so those leetle plants sometimes catch my attention, and I think of the children’s tale about moose moss…. Oh, where are you, Thidwick?

The sign said “Voting” (with an arrow pointing left) “Go around to back door near fence.”
They left out the part about voting behind the DUMPSTER….
The navigation’s pretty straight-forward, though, compared to what NN goes through to get to her Detroit Film Center (video) class!

The new Mac Air is without a doubt a cool machine. Superb design. Eye-catching. I didn’t even notice the built-in iSight camera, but then we weren’t at the store and in its august presence very long…. And I certainly didn’t dig beneath the surface to find the 37-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery*….
I see the Mac Air as a rather overgrown PDA, good for the high-end business-types. I suspect I’d need to lug around a separate hard drive for all my photos and miscellany, though.
And what the heck is a lithium-polymer battery anyway? Sounds like a gizmo from Star Trek!

I forgot to mention that yesterday’s Intrepid Hikers found a bit of snow/ice in a very sheltered north-side spot right next to the AT.
No sign of the earliest spring vegetation, though. I saw a few vultures high up, but neither heard nor saw birds among the trees. Instead, I heard the spring-blush of water tumbling down the balds and ledges and steep slopes—a very happy sound in these drought-times….

Today was a gorgeous day for a walk, so we headed for the mountains! This view is looking back toward the Piedmont from up above Neels Gap on the AT.
And you can see why they call this area the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Leftovers can be such a pleasure! A lovely meal, at your fingertips….
* Hmm. The parm melted on top doesn’t look so tasty in this close-up….
