Seasonal clues

This is the sunrise view, well after sunrise. Lake-side owners have taken in all boats and docks along the shore to the left.

Here’s today’s second wide-angle photo…of the color change in the big maple by the cottage. [Photos are nine minutes apart, early afternoon.]

Autumnal confirmations

This morning was cloudy, and not terribly pretty, although I did enjoy the newly fallen leaves dancing lightly on the water.

We did have a sunshine afternoon, and now it’s a clear evening with a lovely moon. Cold is expected overnight (low of 42°F, brr), so, for the first time this fall, the electric heater is on.

Two-headline day

This is just before sunrise, and the sun is behind that cloud.

Wide angle, a few minutes later…the color drama’s already fading.

The other event of the day was making cider, with a potluck afterward. Here’s the press before everything got going (except all the equipment prep and apple collecting, etc.). The job that’s the most fun is tossing washed apples into the hopper on top.

Here’s the autumn gold, flowing from the press. Yum. [But don’t drink too much.]

Plus mesmerizing

Wave edge

Wave watching: ever compelling, engrossing, and transfixing….

Lake view (obv)

I treated myself to quiet contemplation of the lake on a gorgeous day.

Lovelies (not love lies)

I zipped down to see the sun rise while the coffee dripped.

Mid-morning at the rain barrel.

I came up with a new-to-me recipe for a dip…greek yogurt, chives…

…chopped fresh mint, and black pepper, with a drizzle of olive oil. Yum.

Orchard life

I’m avoiding a murky, rainy, morning photo, and instead offering droplet-decorated apples, after the sun came out.

Morning walk

This photo trio is from just before 9am. Backlit mint.

Canada goose wheeling.

Quiet lake, with sand-tracks.

Technically: rain

9:25am. The sky and waves resemble the last few days. A few minutes later, I watched the bald eagle fly west over the lake, very low, like he/she was exploiting ground effect (lake effect?). Efficiency.

3:50pm. We had actual rain…enough to get the flagstones wet. Then, it quit.

Residual roof-flow did drip into the rain barrel, but not enough to even raise the level a half-inch. An hour or so later, we got another brief sprinkle, that time not enough to get the stones completely wet.

Desiccating wind

10:35am. Menacing sky.

2:19pm. Even more menacing…

…with enough wind to paste a leaf to a dried lupine spike.
