Where’s Linnaeus?

Rodent statue

Snake yesterday. Rodent today.

Pacing*

Snakeskin in quince

I’m feeling recycled today. Thus, this photo is from a month ago.

Kudos to the KW for a decade of blahgging!

* Not the walking kind….

Also saw bald eagle soaring

Fawn a running

Little guy/gal came within two meters of us, up in the grove. Over in the field, mom-doe was snorting/whistling/calling.

Gimme pollen

Busy bumblebee

I have not heard that the pesticides, weather, mites, whatever the toxic soup of factors is that’s been battering the honeybee population has been affecting the bumblers*. We had several visiting our bee balm today.

* Maybe not, but habitat problems have to be in play, at minimum….

Sporting standoff avoided

Five lined skink I think

Five-lined skink, I think, that I spotted the other week in VA. Love the blue tail…that may mark it as a juvenile?

Hockey? Baseball!

Different channels.

And, I venture, a different mindset to boot.

World traveler

Tattered flutterby

This lovely flutterby was enjoying the rays and I could see how tattered s/he is, I assume from a long trip north from somewhere far away.

Farm visit

Camelid straw

I’m being casual even though my hair was removed last week, and I don’t like my bony body image. Notice how cool I am with this gras, though.

Scary thing: as I was composing this, maybe three and a half hours after our farm visit, I found a tick running up my neck. Running is better than stopped. Now headed for the shower & a detailed TICK CHECK….

Not discussing (gooey) windshield

Prius meets bugs bugs die

During our trek today, we drove under what seemed like horizontal columns of insects, small flies or gnats or something soft-bodied. They seemed to favor the space above the road/blacktop, but, fortunately, most of the time above our vehicle, too. Except for some spots. Our Prius now has new organic matter decorating it.

Critter summary

Horse patrol duo BeltLine

Sometimes when I return from my wanders the Guru asks what wildlife (he means critters in general, I think) I spotted. Today I saw two horses (with police-riders), the Canada goose family by the drainage lake (now down to one gosling*), Piper the cat, several dogs with their walkers, wild birds…. And yet it was a pretty quiet day.

* Hypothesis: second gosling was a casualty of carnivore hunting, perhaps by cat, rat, stevedore, dog, or raptor; however, no feather-spot detected in cursory perusal.

All quiet

Mr ms heron waiting

Ms/Mr GB Heron, center, just in front of the Muscovy trio.

Right there on the walkway, the GB Heron—perhaps since dawn? Dunno. We didn’t speak.
